Intrusion alarm systems are designed to detect unauthorized activity and alert an owner in the case of a break-in. The system is created using sensors and notification devices all controlled from a control panel. On the event of a break-in, the sensor detects this activity and sends an electrical signal to the control panel. The control panel, in turn, sends an electrical signal to the notification device which could be, like in this case, an alarm. Once this alarm is triggered, the owner and people within that environment are notified of the crime in progress. In other cases, a notification is sent directly to relevant authorities.

Components of an Intrusion Alarm System
Sensors
Sensors are devices that detect parameters set to trigger the alarm system. There are different types defined by the different parameters they are set to detect:
- Motion Sensors: These sensors are designed to detect movement with areas that have been mapped out by the security system. Motions sensors will detect movement within your facility and trigger the alarm consequently. There are many types of motion sensors but the most common are infrared, ultrasonic and microwave sensors.
- Contact Sensors (Door and Window Sensors): Door and window sensors are trigger an alarm when a door or a window is opened. They work with a magnet and a sensor both installed on the door/window but in different parts. The magnet is installed on the door itself, whereas the sensor is placed on the door frame. The alarm is triggered once the magnet moves (so if the door or window is opened) away from the sensor. Contact sensors focus on contact rather than motion, making them especially effective as perimetral defense for an office or room as they detect if something comes in contact with a door or a window.
- Glass-break sensors: This is a sensor that detects the sound of breaking glass through vibrations and activates an alarm. A glass-break sensor makes sure that nobody breaks into your facility by shattering the glass of a window/door.
The sensor is installed on the glass that you want to monitor and triggers the alarm in case the vibrations of the glass that is being monitored change rapidly (for example, if someone hits the glass very hard or if the glass breaks). With this technology, especially if paired with door and window contact sensors, you can efficiently monitor the entry points of your facility.
Keypads
Keypads help you interact with the system by allowing you to configure it. Through the keypad you can arm/disarm your system, and activate/deactivate devices.
Sounders
Sounders are devices that create sounds which notify personnel on-ground that there is a security breach. When a perimeter has been breached, the sensor sends an electrical signal to the control panel. The control panel in turn sends an electrical signal which triggers the sounder.
